About the Course
The Advanced Open Water Diver course is all about advancing your skills. You’ll practice navigation and buoyancy, try deep diving and make three specialty dives of your choosing (it’s like a specialty sampler platter). For every specialty dive you complete, you can earn credit toward PADI® specialty certifications.
Here are a few of the many options: Deep, Digital Underwater Photography, Dive Against Debris, Dry Suit, Enriched Air Nitrox, Fish Identification, Night, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search & Recovery, Underwater Naturalist, Underwater Navigation, and Wreck Diver.
Course Layout
We begin with registration, orientation, and online eLearning. Advanced Open Water Diver eLearning includes interactive lessons on 13 popular specialty dives: altitude, boat, digital underwater imaging, drift, dry suit, fish ID, night, buoyancy, search and recovery, underwater naturalist and wreck diving.
You’ll study peak buoyancy, navigation, and deep diving plus two specialties of your choosing. We will conduct a day of skills training at Fantasy Lake Adventure Park (URL: Fantasy Lake Adventure Park (gofantasylake.com) ) near Wake Forest, NC. We will also conduct 2 dives on a boat charter out of Wilmington, NC (additional fees may apply).

Course Expected length:
- eLearning (6-8 hours)
- Dive session at Fantasy Lake (1 day)
- Offshore boat charter (1 day)
Prerequisites:
- Certified Junior Open Water Diver or Open Water Diver
- 12-years old
Needed Equipment:
- Students are required to have their own mask, snorkel, and fins
- Basic scuba gear such as regulator, buoyancy control device (BCD), submersible pressure gauge (SPG), dive computer, and air cylinders can be rented. Contact us for more information.
- Additional equipment: compass, knife/ cutting tool, surface marker buoy (provided)
